About Us

Who We Are

AOP is a film production collective based in Austin Texas, founded by Peter Algiers in 2016. All of our movies are ground-up originals, written and directed by Peter Algiers, often shot guerilla style, and always with original music. We have 4 feature-length films available now, with a 5th called Malcolm & Mallory, in post-production. We're already in talks to get our 6th film produced. If you’re looking for true Indie with endless ideas and rapid growth, go to our Films Page and enjoy!

Origins

Peter Algiers, the founder of AOP, was born in Southern California to a large family of 7 children. His brother Anthony is a talented novelist and screenwriter. One of Anthony's short stories centered around a complex man named Austin, the title character of Austin's Obsession. Peter's eldest brother Joey, a versatile and classically trained musician, named his first solo album Austin's Obsession after Anthony's short. The album cover was a picture hand-drawn by Joey, which later became the logo for AOP. Peter, inspired by his older brothers, named AOP after their work with their blessing. To this day, they both assist in the writing and scoring of AOP's films. Peter started making short films in Los Angeles for several years, growing his ability and knowledge as a filmmaker before finally making his first feature-length film in quarantine. After two more features, Peter moved to Texas and continued to produce films in the Lone Star State.

What Makes Us, Us

Peter Algiers began studying classic and historic film at the age of ten, becoming a film historian by 16. It was at this time that Peter took up screenwriting, photography, and piano. Peter never went to film school, instead becoming a business professional and learning operations, accounting, finance and even basic tax law. Peter always maintained focus on his dream to become a filmmaker, and with this wealth of knowledge and life experience he was able to pursue filmmaking with incredible efficiency. His intention when making a film is to create something new while recapturing what made the old films so special. Peter insists that entertaining an audience is the most difficult and important thing a filmmaker can do. "I like philosophy and high-concepts, but writing an intelligent film is easy, if it's also boring. Entertaining an audience is difficult. I don't want to spend 20 minutes telling the audience how something works, I'd rather they enjoy themselves. The audience doesn't care how smart the writer thinks he is, they want to feel something, so I focus on making my work enjoyable to watch."
